Moonlight Beach

We left Uncle Kip's house, thank you Uncle Kip! We are now staying at a hotel in Leucadia, CA. It's part of Encinitas. My dad says Leucadia exudes a certain low rent charm. I think that's good.

There are beautiful beaches around here. We went to Moonlight Beach. It's very popular.

I loved going to the edge of the water and having the waves splash into my legs!

They have a nice playground right at Moonlight Beach.

Encinitas (in-si-NEE-tas for those wondering about the pronunciation) is a beach town (slightly overgrown now) about 20 miles north of SD and known for Moonlight Beach and surfing. If you are a serious surfer (i.e., live to surf, and believe me, some do...), then you want to live in a bungalow near the beach in Encinitas. (Hence the slightly run-down appearance.) The Old Coast Highway 101 that used to run right up the coast from SD to LA (before the freeways came along) is the main drag in downtown Encinitas. It is straight out of a Raymond Chandler novel and provides a glimpse of what coastal southern Calif must have looked like in the 40s and 50s. Encinitas is an interesting place to visit. (Bring your sunglasses.) Susan lives in Encinitas, but she claims she is not a surfer, which is unusual for an "Encinitan".
